Discover the wild birds around every walk.
Hear a song or spot a flash of color, and Songtrail names the bird right on your phone. Every find joins your own collectible field book.
What Songtrail does
See it in action.
From the first birdsong to a full field book, here's how Songtrail works, screen by screen.

Listen
Hear a song? Meet the singer.
Hold up your phone and record a few seconds. Songtrail picks out the singer and shows its best guesses, ranked by confidence. You make the final call.

Spot
Or just point your camera.
See a flash of color? Snap a photo. An on-device model finds the bird in the frame and names what it sees, no signal required.

Collect
Fill a field book of 150 birds.
Every find earns an illustrated card. Work through a hand-picked set of 150 common North American birds, sorted into four colorful habitats.

Learn
Get to know every bird.
Each card carries size, voice, range, and a short field note, plus real reference photos and the bird's call to play back.

Your trail
See where you found them.
Every sighting is pinned where you made it, so you can look back over the birds along your favorite walks. It's a private record that stays on your phone.
150 birds to collect
A friendly field book, not a science project.
Songtrail isn't an exhaustive scientific database of thousands of species. It's a hand-picked set of 150 common North American birds, an obtainable collection meant to get anyone into the habit of noticing what's singing, naming it, and getting outside.
Every bird belongs to one of four habitats, each with its own color, so your collection reads at a glance.
How it works
From a glimpse to a name in three taps.
No sign-up, no waiting on a server. Just point, listen, and add the bird to your book.
Find a bird
Open Songtrail and choose Listen or Spot. Record a few seconds of song, or snap a quick photo.
Get an honest guess
The app ranks the most likely species and factors in where you are, the season, and the time of day. You make the final call.
Add it to your book
Confirm the match and the bird lands in your collection, pinned to the map and sorted into its habitat.
Private by design
It all happens on your phone.
Songtrail's bird-ID models are bundled right into the app and run entirely on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning. There's no bird-ID service in the cloud to phone home to.
That means it works deep in a forest with no bars, answers instantly, and keeps your photos, recordings, and location on your phone.
